Alice’s artworks transform the chaos which echoes from youth into adulthood through the forms of hyper-alert, ultra-vibrant, creatures. Her protagonists vibrate with the same potency which comes over cage-fighters in the semi-static moment of pre-match tension.
The subjects of these pieces are conditioned to fight: but their form contains the potential for freedom that an un-encumbered child has, before life-changing events occur. As such, these artworks serve as a translation from lived experience into material form.
Alice’s intention is to make works that are so commanding that the viewer cannot look away: and must confront the emotional difficulty of the content. This aligns with her key concept: that art engenders proximity to the unspeakable: and that to be seen is to be known.
